Tools Used in Drain Cleaning

Over one’s lifetime, there are many time’s where one will need to unclog some sort of clogged drain. There are many reasons why a drain may become clogged and many products used to unclog the drain, some more useful than others.

There may be in time, those clogged drains that call for the expertise of a plumber to be called in as a plumber has access to heavy duty equipment and chemicals that the everyday person does not. Drain cleaning is not a glamorous job, but it does need to be done.

The plumbing system runs like the arteries of the home. They keep clean water flowing in and waste water flowing out. If an area of the system becomes backed up, generally, it affects the entire household in one way or another.

If there is a blockage, it will need to become unblocked in order to get the system back in working order. Drain cleaning will need to be performed and depending on the drain, the proper tool will need to be used.

The first thing that will need to be done is determine where is the clogged drain. Some are in plain site, some are not. If it is in plain site, great. Half the battle is won. The easiest thing to do is begin by using a plunger and see if the clog can get unclogged by using the plunger. Another tool in drain cleaning is using a chemical cleaner that can be purchased at any store.

Those generally work on small clogs and work in combination with a plunger or an auger. Another drain cleaning tool is the snake also called an auger. Drain cleaning can be accomplished by the homeowner but when it cannot, a plumber needs to be called in.

When a plumber is called in, he will use such tools as an air burst cleaner, a sewer jetter or an electric drain cleaner. He may also use a heavy duty enzymatic cleaner in combination with any of the above cleaners. The plumber is the person to call as he is the one who knows what he is doing as he is trained in his profession.
